ABOUT

Konstantina Skalionta is a dance artist and performance maker from Limassol, Cyprus. She is an alumna of Central School of Ballet (BA (Hons) in Professional Dance and Performance, Choreography Prize, 2011) and the London Contemporary Dance School (MA in Contemporary Dance, 2018).​

Konstantina's inspiration draws personal experiences of family, home, body image and the sense of belonging, transforming them into something universal. Her work explores the human nature seeking to bring universal issues into light. Konstantina’s strong interest in the visual arts has led to many collaborations with artists towards developing performances for the camera, galleries and theatrical spaces. Her performances #NoFilterNeeded, Be My Home, Beauty-fool, In the Likeness of.., use movement and the manipulation of props, objects and other kind of materials developed through collaborations with the artists/ makers Laura Elias and Bea Bonafini.

Konstantina is interested in shaping a direct, engaging and eventually intriguing bond between herself as performer and the audience member during the performance, as well as the creative process. Her interactive solo performance Land(e)scape (2016-19), developed by inviting audience members to witness her work in progress and then discuss about their experience. The work was supported by organisations such as Dance4 (Nottingham), the NN Contemporary Gallery in Northampton, the Dance House Limassol and the Egomio Cultural Centre in Cyprus, and premiered in premiered in February 2019 at Dance4 (Nottingham) as part of the UK Young Artists’ Nottingham City Take Over.

She has presented work in festivals and platforms in UK and Cyprus such as Resolution (The Place Theatre, London), Fiver Fridays (Chisenhale Dance Space, London), Swallowsfeet Festival (Market Theatre, Brighton) etc., and commissioned to create work for the Summer Dance Festival 2020 (Limassol), Women of Mass Destruction 2 (RichMix, London), the 19th Cyprus Choreographic Platform (Rialto), the 15th Cyprus Contemporary Dance Platform (Rialto Theatre, Limassol), and the Surrey Dance Festival (2014).

She was selected Emerging Choreographer for the choreographer’s observership programme by OneDanceUK (2017), and an invited artist to the Development Lab (2016) by the Lyric Theatre and the Dance House Lefkosia residency programme (2015) for the work F-AM-I-LY. In 2017, Konstantina choreographed the dance scene for short film UNSKIN, by director Elcid Asaei, Crimpson Black Productions Ltd. Between February - September 2020 she was a resident artist with her project 'Objet Animated: Once there was a forest' at Moving The New Residency Program by Dance House Lemesos (CY).
