'Object Animated' is a multi disciplinary research project held at the Dance House Lemesos as part of the Moving the New Residency programme. The project brings into collaboration dance artist Konstantina Skalionta with dramaturge Rodia Vomvolou, cinematographer Artemis Evlogimenou, musician Dimitris Savva and artist Laura Elias, towards exploring in what ways materials can be animated and used as performing bodies in the context of performance. By bringing together a diverse artistic team, the project aims at developing techniques towards animating materials through the use of movement, lighting and sound. The aim is to create a universe where materials embody psychological and physiological states, thus becoming extensions and projections of body and self.

 

The project culminates in a performance with title 'Once There Was A Forest on the 3rd of October 2020, as part of the Open House Festival in Limassol Cyprus.

Meet the team:

​

Artemis Evlogimenou is an audiovisual artist born and based in Cyprus. Her inspiration stems from 3 lifelong obsessions - anthropology, sound and nature. She explores these themes by experimenting with both digital and analogue processes. Before focusing on photography and film, Artemis trained and worked as a performance designer and animator, 2 areas which have influenced and helped her develop her current work. Artemis is the founder of ‘Στον Ακάμα', (meaning ‘At Akamas’), an ongoing, online documentary series about the Akamas Peninsula in Cyprus and ‘αρχείο’ (meaning: archive) an online, audiovisual platform of skilled craftswomen and men in Cyprus. Her work has been screened/exhibited in Scotland, England, Holland and Canada.

Dimitris Savva is a composer from Cyprus. He received his Bachelor degree (distinction) in music composition from the Ionian University of Corfu and his Master degree (distinction) in Electroacoustic composition from the University of Manchester. In January 2015 he started his fully funded PhD in Sheffield University. His compositions have been performed in Greece, Cyprus, United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Belgium, France, Mexico, Chile, Brazil and USA. His acousmatic composition Erevos won the first prize ex aequo in the student category of acousmatic composition competition Metamorphoses 2012 and his composition Balloon Theories has been awarded with the Franz List residency-scholarship and the public prize at the composition competition Metamorphoses 2014. In 2019 for his composition Moments of Liberty II: Falling Within he received a “mention” in the acousmatic composition competition Metamorphoses 2018, the 4th prize in the SIME 2019 International Electroacoustic Music Competition and the 3rd prize in the Ioannis Xenakis International Electroacoustic Composition.

Laura Elias is a freelance artist and prop maker. She graduated from the Slade School of Fine Art in 2012 with a BA in Fine art and went on to pursue a postgraduate specialist course in Prop Making at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), graduating in 2013 with Distinction. She has since worked as a freelance prop maker in London. She has created props for television and film, for window displays  (Selfridges and Harvey Nichols), for theatrical productions at the Park Theatre, Hampstead Theatre and the Arcola Theatre. She continues to participate in exhibitions across the UK including a solo show at York’s Norman Rea Gallery and more recently a group show at Kingston’s annual ‘Site-Specific’ sculpture garden. She has worked with Konstantina Skalionta towards the performances Be My Home(2016) and #NoFilterNeeded (2019). Elias has been a prop maker at the National Theatre since 2015.
